A screened porch is wonderful for about four months a year. The rest of the time it collects pollen, holds rain, and sits empty while you look at it through the kitchen window.
WeatherMaster™ windows solve that. They're custom-built vinyl glazing panels that slide into the openings of your existing porch, turning it into a room you can actually use in March and October — and still open all the way up in July. Vivid Outdoor Living is an authorized Sunspace dealer serving Lake Norman and the greater Charlotte area, and WeatherMaster is the system we install most often, because of what it does for the money.

What a WeatherMaster window actually is
WeatherMaster windows are glazed with ViewFlex vinyl rather than glass. That single design decision drives most of what makes the system work.
Vinyl glazing is flexible, so it absorbs impact instead of shattering — no small consideration on a porch that catches a stray basketball or a branch off a willow oak. It's lighter than glass, which means the panels move easily and the frames don't need to be overbuilt to carry the weight. And because it flexes, it tolerates the expansion and contraction that comes with a Carolina summer without stressing the frame.
The panels sit in aluminum frames that are custom-fabricated to the exact dimensions of your openings. Nothing is trimmed to fit on site and nothing is filled in with framing lumber to make a stock size work — the window is built to your porch, not the other way around.
How the panels move
Each window is built as a set of stacking panels that ride in a track. You slide them where you want them and they stay there.
Vertical systems — slide the panels to the top of the frame, down to the sill, or gather them anywhere between, depending on what you want that day. Want the top half open for a cross breeze while the bottom stays closed against blowing rain? That's the whole point.
Horizontal systems — panels slide side to side, available in 2-track and 4-track configurations. A 4-track gives you more panels and therefore more open area when they're bunched.
Fully open, a 4-track WeatherMaster system gives you up to 75% ventilation — the opening is genuinely open, not cracked. A 2-track system opens to 50%, which is still substantial and costs less. Fully closed, either configuration cuts wind, rain, pollen, and a noticeable amount of road and neighbor noise. Every position in between is available.
Every window carries a
full fiberglass mesh screen, so you don't choose between airflow and insects. The screen stays where it is while the vinyl moves.
Sizing your openings
Vertical WeatherMaster systems are built in three widths, and we combine them to fill whatever the porch actually measures:
| System | Opening Width |
|---|---|
| Single Window System | 2ft-4ft |
| Stereo Double Window System | 4ft-8ft |
| Stereo Triple Window System | 8ft-12ft |
Maximum for a single vertical unit is 12 ft wide by 8 ft high. Wider openings are filled with multiple units, and we place the divisions on your posts or structural members rather than in the middle of a view.
Four tints, and why the choice matters here
ViewFlex vinyl comes in four tints — Clear, Smoke Gray, Dark Gray, and Bronze — and you can combine tints within one project. In our climate the choice is worth thinking about rather than defaulting to clear.
A west-facing porch in Huntersville takes direct afternoon sun from May through September. A darker tint knocks down heat gain and glare enough to make the difference between a room you sit in at 5 p.m. and one you avoid. A north-facing or heavily shaded porch usually wants clear, to keep the space bright.
We'll walk the porch with you, note the orientation and what's shading it, and recommend accordingly. It costs nothing to get right at the order stage and it's expensive to change later.
Frame colors
Aluminum frames come in five standard finishes: White, Driftwood, Bronze, Black, and Gray.
Screen options
Screening is part of the design conversation, not an afterthought. Sunspace uses Phifer screening — an American manufacturer that has been making architectural screen cloth since 1952 — and offers six types. The right one depends on what's actually bothering you:
- BetterVue — greater openness for airflow and light, with smaller holes for better insect protection and a noticeably clearer outward view.
- 18x16 — standard insect screening.
- 20x20 No-See-Ums — the tighter weave that stops the small biting midges a standard mesh lets through. Also gives you daytime privacy. If you're on or near the water, this is the one.
- TuffScreen — heavy-duty vinyl-coated polyester, treated with Microban to inhibit mildew. Resists damage from pets, tears and punctures. The choice for high-traffic porches and households with dogs.
- 20x30 Solar Insect Screen — blocks 65% of the sun's heat and glare while still screening insects.
- 18x14 Pool & Patio — the traditional heavier choice for pool and patio enclosures.
WeatherMaster doors
A wall of windows without a matching door leaves you with a room that looks half-finished. Sunspace builds WeatherMaster doors in the same ViewFlex vinyl and the same frame profiles, in matching tints and finishes, so the entry reads as part of the system instead of an afterthought.
Doors are sized and configured to the opening alongside the window order, and the hardware and finish are specified to match. For wide openings where you want the entire wall to disappear, look at the WeatherMaster™ Plus Bi-Fold Door System instead.
Where we install them
- Porch conversions — the most common job. An existing covered porch becomes a three-season room.
- New screen rooms and sunrooms — designed and built by us from the footing up, with WeatherMaster as the glazing.
- Patio enclosures — enclosing a covered patio under an existing roofline.
- Garage door openings — turning a garage bay into usable living or workshop space while keeping the ability to open it wide.
- Deck and porch railings under a roof — closing in the upper portion of an existing structure.
If your porch already has a solid roof and a level floor, you're most of the way there.
Living with them
Cleaning is soap, water, and a soft cloth. The vinyl doesn't need waxing or track lubricant. The aluminum is finished, not painted, so there's nothing to scrape or repaint.
A few things worth being straight about:
- This is a three-season room, not a conditioned one. WeatherMaster is a single-layer vinyl system. It will make your porch comfortable across a much longer season and it will keep weather out, but it isn't insulated glass and it won't hold conditioned air the way an exterior wall does. In our climate that means roughly March through November as a comfortable room, longer with a heat source. If you want a year-round conditioned space, that's a different build and we'll tell you so.
- It won't make your porch soundproof. It cuts noise meaningfully. It doesn't eliminate it.
What the warranty actually covers
Sunspace backs the system with a limited, non-prorated warranty to the original purchaser:
| Component | Coverage |
|---|---|
| Vinyl extruded components (the frames) | Lifetime — against peeling, flaking, blistering and corroding, for as long as you own the room |
| Hardware and screen units | Lifetime — rollers, latches and other moving parts |
| Vinyl glazing (the ViewFlex panels) | 10 years from installation, against fading and cracking |
| Tempered glass breakage in windows and doors | Lifetime in residential use |
| Insulating glass units | 15 years against seal failure and permanent fogging |
Warranty claims run through us as the installing contractor — we inspect, and Sunspace supplies the replacement part at no charge.
Why buy it from Vivid Outdoor Living
Sunspace makes the windows. What you're buying from us is whether they end up installed correctly.
We've been building outdoor living spaces in the Lake Norman area for more than three decades. We measure the openings ourselves, we handle the permitting where it's required, and if your porch needs structural work, a new floor, or a roof correction before the windows go in, we do that too — you're not coordinating between three contractors to get one room finished.
We serve Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Denver, Sherrills Ford, Terrell, Troutman, Statesville, Concord, and the greater Charlotte area.
